Karcsi is disabled, forced into a wheelchair. His world revolves around performance, around music and friends. In his every day life, he often has to rely on people’s help, but when he dances he develops an energy and an ability which let his disability disappear, leaving us with an extraordinary feeling of fascination. ‘Steps’ is a choreography of life; a dance between dependence and independence, of rising beyond yourself.

Nicola Stephanie SANGS
Nicola was very lucky that her studies brought me to the Netherlands, Canada and Australia. After graduating in “International Media Management”, she worked in advertising and fiction film productions in Berlin, always fantasising about making her own films. She soon realised that there was so much more to live and discover and continued my journeys abroad. Her passion for documentary filmmaking was sparked when she assisted a film director friend in India in shooting a documentary project. She realised that her journeys around the world have very much affected her visual language, her perception of stories and the individuals behind them. Shortly after, she commenced my master at DocNomads, a mobile film school taking place in Portugal, Belgium and Hungary. During her studies she made many creative documentary short films, of which one will premiere at DocLisboa this year. Other works have been shown in art exhibitions, like ‘Unfolding Immunity’, as part of a International Conference at the University of Leuven, Belgium.
