...like an oasis in a crazy corporate and globalizing world - Liis Nimik's opinion

Liis is a film director, editor and festival programmer from Tallin and came to visit our Gathering with a group of Estonian fim makers and festival organisers.  They brought some specialities from home that they presented on a table full of food and drink. Thanks to all of our Estonian friends once again!

You can read Liis's opinion below in the details.

For me Mediawave was an unforgettable experience. I liked the atmosphere very much, I liked the easygoing organization and the spontaneous christianings and weddings that happened:) It was like no other festival I have ever been to! The concert of the music workshop was also very powerful, having seen the guys playing in front of a toilet and everywhere in the previous days. I liked also that there was no commercial feeling to the festival - that you could come with your own food and drinks but also could get food from the place. Your festival is like an oasis in a crazy corporate and globalizing world.

What did not work so well for me was the schedule for the concerts - it was very hard to follow what was happening where (the rooms and stages I mixed up all the time) and when. The idea of the "herald" guy inviting everyone was nice but starting from some moment it did not work anymore. There was a lot of time when there was no concert at any stage and people seemed a bit aimless but later it happened, that there were concerts happening exactly in the same time (like the first concert of PUULUUP and also the concert of the music workshop teacher at the same time with a concert on the main stage). The small concert room next to the main stage can not handle two concerts going on at the same time.

Having visited festivals, for me it has always worked very well when the concert chedule is very strict. No delays are allowed and the concerts are arranged so, that they don't overlap. This is better for the musicians and also for the public. So I think this is something to work on for the next time - to make the concert rooms understandable in the schedule and keep the schedule very stricktly.

And one more thing I remembered - the first concert of PUULUUP as well as the concert of the music teacher - the sound guy was drunk! He did not seem too competent - the guys from Puuluup were a bit annoyed by that. The first concert and the second concert of PUULUUP were like from different planets.

I wish you all the best for the next times, I hope to be there again!!! You are doing a great and a very necessary thing!
