A girl - while taking a walk through the centre - discovers something very strange about the people of Sarajevo. They seem like lifeless 'zombies', they only come alive for a few seconds to perform a little scene written down for them. She takes it as a joke first and fools around until she comes ac...

This story started thirty years ago. I was a seventh grader in the January of 1980 when I got a Soviet pen-friend. Our Russian teacher handed out some envelopes with Cyrillic writing on them saying that from that those were our pen-friends. I was luc...
Once they were warriors in the bush. They were abducted from their villages, their families as a children. They returned home after many years - if they were lucky and survived the combats, hiding, raiding and endless walking - as an adult after a nightmare...
In case of good weather- which we hope will be- we imagine the afternoons of the festival as a Maypole Celebration welcoming summer and blossoming. While harvest and vintage somewhat still holds the tradition of community spirit, this specific period which preaches the revival of nature, blooming trees, meadows, seems to fade. We would like to draw attention to this beautiful times if the weather also cooperates. So our programmes will be held outside on the Danube waterfront, near the floodplain forest. We would like to build a "tradition" on this, so we don't want to mess the "natural decoration" up. We won't use aplification, stage, only the athmosphere amplifying people. But bring checked tablecloth, picnic basket and blankets.
MEDIAWAVE MAY DAY will be the sum of small and bigger entertaining programmes, relaxing and community building, permanent and time bound special programmes.
If the weather won't stand on our side the programmes will be held in the Danube tower of the Fort Monostor which will be a perfect venue in case of bad weather. (The Festival Cetre and the Cinema Rooms have also heating system!)

The band of Apnoe has gone through a period of significant changes in the past few years. They have gone, step by step, from being an enthusiastic underground band playing quality music to becoming a rather popular music group in its prime, known not only by the Hungarian audience but internationally as well. Nevertheless, I would like to point it out that it didn’t happen undeservedly. They did not choose the easy way. Even if the style of Hungarian folk rock is very much in vogue recently, continuously producing mass products the one shallower, or even more harmful, than the other, Apnoe makes use of Hungarian folk music traditions in a very tasteful way. Evidently, playing together with Ferenczi György and Both Miklós in a MEDIAWAVE workshop had a considerable influence on their music but this influence meant a spiritual and stylistic evolution in their case, not a takeover of others’ music motives. They follow their own way while progressing but they also keep up with and synthesize the positive trends surrounding them. The fact that they can play rock music almost acoustically without anyone missing the volume is a remarkable thing in itself. It was one of the best concert experiences I had last year when they gave a concert at the mountainside of Győrság - standing in the grass, surrounded by plum trees – of a special ambiance; this concert blended in the scenery and didn’t disrupt its unity. Birds chirping, the wind sighing and every kind of outdoor
The rehearsals of the music and dance workshop is lead by Miklós Both, the leader of Napra band. In the morning and in the afternoon for 3-3 hours in the armory of Fort Monostor. It's worth to peek into the rehearsals to see the process of the workshops. What will it become for the closing ceremony of 30th April at 21.00? During the rehearsals a lot of details and solutions will come up which can't fit into the closing ceremony.
With Gábor Boka, the director and the help of Miklós Both and the leading of Zeek the closing performance has to be put together. During the closing performance –directed by Boka Gábor – the participants of the different workshops (music, dance, slam poetry, fine arts) will demonstrate the path and the results they experienced during the last 4 days based on the outcome of the previous two stations. The music workshop is led by Both Miklós, the slam poetry section is led by Zeek. The event will surely lead to a good deal of dancing, similarly to last time.
Since it’s 30th April, tradition and manners require us to erect a maypole for the girls of the festival, the same way we have done it in the past 20 years at MEDIAWAVE Festival. We warmly welcome volunteers who would like to help us to carry the tree to its point of destination. Girls are invited also to help with tying the ribbons. Maybe the bands and the dancers in the festival will help as well.
