Applying an unconventional narrative, the film presents a subjective world through 47 scenes. The small events, interlaced by associations, express the irrational coherence of our surroundings. The surreal situations are based on the interactions of humans and nature.
Animation about the joy of love and creation, the play between the male and the female essence visualized in a metaphoric, simbolic way, the ferility (creativity) which is ours to give birth to a new life, a new work of art, like gods, artists and women.
E kezdeményezés persze tetszett nekünk is.
In Ács the tradition of dressing up a maypole is slightly unusual since here an acacia tree will be selected to be decorated with pine branches. The venue is the old barn that has been lately transformed into a teahouse run by fine artist Tamás Tóth and his wife, but as scene of various concerts and cultural programmes it is also considered as cultural center of the area.
The horse owners of Ács will unite under Tamás Tóth and march with their carriages, carts and wagons accompanied by musicians and festival guests to the neighboring Fort Monostor in order to take the maypole and the bride to the venue safely.
Last year the traditional maypole ceremony took place on the opening day – this year it’ll be on the second day of the Gathering. However, we’ll still have the chance to pay our respects to the girls of the festival. On our new celebration of fertility, rebirth and blossoming we’ll be trying to win their favour and sympathy just the way we’ve been doing it for 23 years. We do hope that the new name „Spring Buzz” will impress, encourage and give rise to thoughts. Voluntary helpers are welcome to setting up the maypole as well as girls are expected to lend a hand in fastening the ribbons. The performers of the festival will surely take part in this ritual. The Garabonciás – being established in 1986 - is a nationally and internationally well-known dance group from Komárom. It has been directed almost from the start by Klára Gábor folk dance teacher awarded with “Young Master of Folk Art” Prize. The group’s artistic manager is László Pőcze.
For more than a quarter of a century the group has been constantly participating in regional and national folk dance meetings and various contests for preserving traditions.
After the maypole ceremony you can listen to traditional rural folkmusic originated from Upper Hungary and Transylvania. This year the festival’s highlight is introducing the versatility of living in Upper Hungary. The Ritka Magyar Folkband considers that traditional Hungarian folk music is the most perfect and clearest music ever developed. Therefore, the musicians of the band also feel responsible for maintaining the pureness of this music while forwarding it to the following generations. But what does music have to do with it?
Improvised music and it´s exploding energies will become the best demonstration tools. The project will work as a symbolic occupation of the sound waves and the acoustic spaces of the festival by the power of free-flowing music. OCCUPY MEDIAWAVE´14 aims to be a symbolic action/demonstration in the spirit of the occupy movement, where the participating musicians turn to be activists in different, freely set up formations (ad-hoc bands) and will play very short, action-/performance-like free music at different locations at the festival area.
We discovered the throaty singer-musician Artem back in 2007 while we were visiting the Altai in South Siberia. Later we managed to take him to the MEDIAWAVE and he gave a lot of memorable concerts for many of us. Several years have passed and now we are excited to see how far he’s got in his musical development. Gyuri Ferenczi and his companions will welcome him in their band and on their workshop, so we can expect many interesting issues to evolve during his presence.
György Ferenczi and his band can be considered as pillars of MEDIAWAVE for many years. At first their concerts appear to be quite loose, but in a certain way they are extremely disciplined. Gyuri Ferenczi has conducted a number of various music workshops for young musicians so far and there’s no doubt that they significantly contributed to the atmosphere of last year’s GATHERING when they played together with Tibetan and Chinese musicians.
The Swiss percussionist Gilbert Paeffgen and his band were guests of the MEDIAWAVE Festival ten years before, in 2004. This time he comes with Susanna Dill and their duo promises to be a really sophisticated and delicate one. The lineup is also extraordinary: accordion and cimbalom… We Hungarians used to believe that cimbalom is our traditional instrument – now we have to face the fact that musicians from other countries can play it well and very subtly indeed.
Playing blues-based soul & funk music, Raphael Wressnig and Enrico Crivellaro were guests of the MEDIAWAVE Festival back in 2007. At the time we really enjoyed this mighty bloody band playing the Hammond organ and the guitar. No wonder that we got excited as they reappeared on the music scene. It would be quite surprising if the dancing part was left out at the end of their performance.
Stevan Kovacs Tickmayer reflected upon the circumstances in which the band was established: „On the occasion of the Mediawave Festival in 2011 we had the chance to revive our former musical collaboration. None of us were disappointed about the results as we concluded that after the long silence our music sounded more mature and accomplished. Unfortunately, this creative get-together was clouded by an extremely sad event: the death of our master and instructor, György Szabados. Right then and there we decided to continue this cooperation in order to maintain and develop the conceptions of Szabados. The name Trió Kontraszt (Trio Contrast) has a multiple background. First of all, I thought about Bartók’s Contrasts (scored for clarinet-violin-piano trio and dedicated to Benny Goodman and József Szigeti), then I reminded myself of the contrastful elements characteristic to our music (we are all versatile musicians and composers) and of our music language and heritage that is completely contrasted to recent tendencies of free music.”
Jimmy Rogers – Walking by Myself, Buddy Guy – Mustang Sally & Midnight Train, The Blues Brothers – Soul Man & Sweet Home Chicago, B.B.King – The Thrill is Gone, Deák Bill – Ha megérint a blues, Gary Moore – Cold Day in Hell, John Mayall – A World of Hurt… What a nice playlist!
Uncle Laci, being a warm-hearted and exceptional musician, is the doyen of the music life in Győr, Finally, he has the chance to reinterpret his favourite classics in his own way („Drapán-like”, as we call it), considering them as basics of his own musical attitude: DRAPAN’S BLUE DEVILS. Let’s hear and see it!
