The act of devouring the candle flame holds an illusion of capturing (consumption) and losing (dowse). I see these experiences as a natural part of woman’s existence. Age not only changes the physical appearance of the body, but also determines the reaction of the performer, which is not completely conscious. From this point, the flame, the act, and the performer is always the same, yet new. Following the concept of panta rhei, everything flows, one can never step into the same river twice. Similarly, the same flame will never be dowsed again, repeated or undone. Within this vague feeling of loss, a state of melancholy derives. A German saying Einmal ist Keinmal states that those matters that happened only once, practically did not happen at all. And therefore do not matter, can not be judged neither as a success, nor as failure.
