Hundreds of people have helped and supported the realisation of each 25 MEDIAWAVE Festival / Gathering. Most of them have worked as volunteers or for little money from enthusiasm and conviction. Sometimes there were tensions and quarrels, some people quit and others held on for long years.
No matter how it happened, 25 years have gone and it is time to pay tribute to all those people who added anything to the festivals and its success. It is in itself a unique situation that in spite of so much tremblings and ups and downs, we have survived. Not only are we existing but we can bravely claim that refilled with fresh energy we are prospering in a real bastion surrounded by walls.
I'm sure that everyone got both chicken soup and nettle soup (traditional peasant meal) as well. The older, poor times, a typical weekday meal consisted of nettle and caraway soup and mush. Meat could be found rarely on the Sunday table. As society had been prospering, people consumed lot more meat and everyone was happy. And soon American scientists proved that what we had considered well-being so far were just harmful and unhealthy stuff and the disregarded nettle-soup suddenly became something valuable. A similar process happened with our festival: after the initial 'eat what you find in your surrounding' situation we were able to put more meat, namely well-known artists and performances on the table due to the growing supports coming together with reputation. The MEDIAWAVE audience was happy to eat this meal and wanted more tastier ones until the crisis around 2010 warned us: increasing digest has limits and obesity is dangerous to our body.
We had to go through a reform so we become attached to nettle soup again and not to look at it as poors' meal but health, temperance and joy of being together. That's why we changed our name to GATHERING!
I, personally, have been preparing for the last one for years. This is good self-cheating tactics as it fires me up and helps me to bring out the best in me. Then, finally, fighting ourselves through the process, refilled with happiness-serum given to and got from the audience, we start it again. In fact, it's not tactics but reality since every year we start it from point zero. We've only improved our routine, efficiency and flexibility. It was also an important recognition 3-4 years ago that without degrading the level of art-conveyance, we've been conscious in building the community. The audince is follwing us in our endeavours. There are newcomers however the old friends keep coming back.
Let's get together as many as we can feel good together and can give experiences, moods and good chats to each other. It is a rare thing nowdays. Let's not lose it!
After this brief analysis and returning to the 25th anniversary, we ask our ex and present colleagues and all our friends who have ever participated to come and help us organise the next meeting during the Gathering (28 April-2 May), 2015).
On the website here under this menu, divided by years, we are trying to find the previous colleagues, performers, film makers, jury members, guests and friends.
If you can't find yourself, please, let us know and if you recognise someone in the list who we are still looking for, please, also tell us.
Send a new photo of yourself and we would be glad to receive some writings from you about your MEDIAWAVE memories. How did you experienced the previous festivals? We aren't expecting praising words rather realistic or funny stories, impressions.
Looking forward to meeting you again.
