Yuriy Gurzhy was born in Ukraine and now lives in Berlin.
Together with Wladimir Kaminer, a successful writer in Germany, he started the now legendary 'Russendisko' club nights, and compiled five CDs on the same subject.
His other compilation, 'Shetl Superstars', was dedicated to the "funky jewish sounds from around the world". .. When he's not busy DJ'ing or compiling CDs, Yuriy sings and plays guitar with RotFront (their 2 albums, 'Emigrantski Raggamuffin' (2009) and "VisaFree" (2011) were released by Essay Recordings).
Together with Lemez Lovas (ex-OiVaVoi) he founded the Shtetl Superstars Orchestra ('Shengen Visa Wedding' CD is due to be relased later this year). He's also collaborated with Alec Kopyt, Shantel, Amsterdam Klezmer Band, Vodka Boys and Master Musicians of Saltovka, amongst others.
