As mentioned in our TOP News, the Hungarian government has banned  indoor events with more than 100 people and outdoor events with more than 500 people because of the state of emergency amid coronavirus pandemic. All these restrictions are being kept for minimum two months, which includes the scheduled date of the 30th Mediawave, so understanding the emergency we postpone our gathering. We are looking for the possibilities of the later realization.

WHAT SOLURTIONS ARE WE WORKING ON?

New date

Our team started to work on rescheduling the Gathering for mid September. As soon as we come to an agreement with the venues, we'll contact the invited artists, film makers, musicians, organisers about their availability in this period.

At the same time, we have started to build up and realize a "virtual gathering" - which is adapted to the present situation - on our online sites. Please read and connect!

WHAT ISN'T AFFECTED BY THE EMERGENCY?

"On The Road" Online International Film Competition

The 30th Mediawave Gathering has already started on the 1st of March with the seventh Online Film Competition. The participating international films will be available to watch until the end of April according to the original plans. The competition program includes 22 short and feature films, 26 animations and experimental films and 8 documentaries from 23 countries. Watch the films and vote for them!

WHAT PROGRAM CHANGES ARE WE CONSIDERING?

Best Mediawave films of the 30 years 

This millennium-wide selection of international and quality films was originally intended only for the cinemas of the Mediawave Gathering, but now we are trying to persuade the filmmakers to let their films be available on our website, as well. At the same time, we would like to make memories' reports with the artists and the different participants asking them to tell their most memorable Mediawave experiences. As the negotiations with the filmmakers are still going on, we know that a lot of them have interesting, sometimes very special stories about the earlier Mediawave festivals; stories that have been unknown by the organizers until now. A lot of these filmmakers have become prestigous filmmakers in their countries. They and their films can be exciting contemporary supplements of the program. 

"Living room" concerts through the internet

We would like to encourage the planned live bands and other performers to organize live concerts at home, which will be streamed live and canned on our online platform.

Community programs

We're asking the co-editors and leaders of planned community programs to find some creative ways to present themselves online.

What would have been, if...

It is difficult to say whether we will be able to keep the program, now designated "Day 1-5" on the new dates. We are intending to accomplish it as fully as possible. Of course, it may happen, that the new date would not be suitable for the artists and filmmakers, especially in case of international guests. We are eager to replace the dropouts with similar quality productions. In any case, keep the program as a memento.

Chance for the similar quality implementation...

The success of the whole organization and implementation depends strongly on what modifications would our supporters and tender managers allow us in connection with the winner, contracted or pre-contracted grants, or grants that have not been decided yet. All this is likely to become clear once the emergency phase gets to its end.
